Kevin Mayes

Kevin Mayes is Chief Payments Officer at Basis Theory, where he focuses on helping merchants build more flexible, resilient, and high-performing payment systems.

Before joining Basis Theory, Kevin spent more than a decade building and operating payments from the merchant side. Most recently, he led Payments, Fraud, and Gift Cards at Chewy, overseeing the strategy and infrastructure behind billions of dollars in annual commerce. Previously, he led payment partnerships and operations at Amazon and served as Chief Product Officer at Quavo, building technology for the financial services industry.

Kevin’s experience spans payment optimization, tokenization, fraud, processor strategy, card networks, and the infrastructure behind modern commerce. Having spent much of his career as the merchant in the room, he brings an operator’s perspective to the industry and is passionate about making payments knowledge more accessible, practical, and useful.
